Construction Phase 1: Building the Frame

Here we are setting up the jig before welding together the bottom frame assembly

Steve cutting some of the side rails to be used in the construction of the bot's top and bottom

Just finished welding up the perimeter of the frame. Still to be added are the diagonal rails and some additional support members.

Another shot of the frame perimeter with the motors and batteries in place for scale

...and from another angle.

Here you can see the front wedge diagonals in place as well as the motor mount support rails

A closer shot showing the nice fat 1/2" and 5/16" bolts that tie the two motors into a single drive unit

Take a look at the cool aluminum motor cradle to support the backend of the motors. Most mounting plates and platforms will be made out of aluminum or lexan in order to conserve weight.

A shot of me grinding down some of the last welds.

The last items to add will be the welded in motor mounts and some additional bracing

The frame complete with additional motor mount bracing and armor tabs welded in place.
